Settings
Configure learning preferences and defaults for your organization.
The Learning Settings page is your control center for how educational content is organized and accessed across your organization. Here, you can define your course taxonomy, toggle self-enrollment rules for the premium TechClass Training Library, and configure role-based access for your L&D materials.
To access these configurations, navigate to Learning > Settings in the Admin Portal sidebar.
1. Overview
The Overview tab provides a quick launchpad to the three main configuration areas of your learning environment.

Clicking on any of these cards will take you to the corresponding tab:
- Categories: Create and manage the tags used to organize courses in the Explore catalog.
- Training Access: Control how learners interact with the pre-built TechClass Training Library.
- L&D Resources Access: Set role-based permissions for supplementary articles and eBooks.
2. Managing Course Categories
The Categories tab allows you to define the topics and groupings that help learners filter and discover courses in their Explore catalog.
Similar to People Settings, you will notice certain categories (like Compliance or Cybersecurity) are locked as (default). These are standard system categories that cannot be edited or deleted. However, you can create as many custom categories as you need.

Viewing Courses in a Category
Next to each category, you will see a small book icon with a number. This indicates how many courses are currently tagged with this category. Clicking this icon opens a modal displaying the exact courses assigned to it.

Adding a Custom Category
To build a new grouping (e.g., "Sales Training"), click the blue + Add Category button. Type the name and click Create. This tag will immediately be available when building or editing a course.

Editing and Deleting
To rename a custom category, click the Pencil icon. To remove it entirely, click the red Trash Can icon. Because deleting a category strips this tag from all associated courses, you must type the exact name of the category to confirm.

3. Training Library Access
TechClass comes with an expert-built Training Library containing interactive courses across AI, compliance, productivity, and more. The Training Access tab allows you to define your organization's philosophy on how employees consume this content.

You have two options:
- Open Library: This encourages a self-directed learning culture. All TechClass Training Library courses will appear in the Learner Portal's "Explore" tab, allowing employees to browse and self-enroll in whatever interests them.
- Admin-Assigned Only: This creates a strictly guided learning environment. Training Library courses are hidden from the Explore tab. Learners will only see these courses if an Administrator or Group Lead manually assigns them.
Select your preferred option and click Save.
4. L&D Resources Access
Beyond formal courses, TechClass allows you to provide supplementary materials like L&D Articles, eBooks, and Lifelong Learning resources. The L&D Resources Access tab lets you control exactly who can see this content based on their portal role.

Use the checkbox matrix to toggle visibility:
- If you want a resource (like an eBook) to be available to everyone, check the box under Learner. Because every user inherently has a Learner profile, enabling this automatically grants access to Instructors, Group Leads, and Admins.
- If you uncheck all boxes for a specific content type, it will be completely hidden, and users will not even see the "L&D Resources" menu item in their portal sidebar.
This feature is particularly useful if you want to reserve certain high-level management articles or specific eBooks strictly for your Group Leads and Admins!
